Unemployment Back Up Again; Woman Calls Cops on Missing Snowman; Sarah Palin Says “Happy Hanukkah”

• Some bad news with your Friday: Following a “torpedoing” of a proposed extension of unemployment benefits by Congress (see also: “House Republicans”), your job recovery is not doing so well, either. Only 39,000 jobs were added to the economy since November, far fewer than expected, and unemployment is back up at 9.8 percent. Sadface. [CNN]

• Google, however, is doing fine, having just signed a contract to buy the building at 111 Eighth Avenue that currently houses its NYC offices. The property, 2.9 million square feet, is valued at close to $1.9 billion. The deal is the biggest for a solo building in the U.S. in 2010. [WSJ]

• Once again, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to be arrested “in the coming days,” after a new warrant was filed by Swedish prosecutors over allegations of rape and molestation. Assange has been in Britain since October. [Independent]

• Budget cuts in Arizona now include financing for those awaiting transplant operations. That really sucks. [NYT]

• Another death has occurred in the all-too-perfect town of Celebration, Florida, created by Disney 14 years ago. On the tails of the currently unsolved murder of a 58-year-old resident comes the apparently unconnected suicide of 52-year-old Craig Foushee, who’d barricaded himself in his apartment after shooting at deputies. Memo to set design: Crime scene tape EVERYWHERE. [Gawker]

• Cops are so humorless nowadays. When a woman in England called to report her snowman missing, they got all “This call could have cost someone’s life if there was a genuine emergency and they couldn’t get through.” OR…the snowman could have been injured by oncoming traffic! [Calgary Sun/Reuters]

Sarah Palin wishes everybody a Happy Hanukkah. Refudiate the oppressors.
