Best Dance Party

At the Freedom Party, pop-and-locking supersedes popping bottles, and for good reason: It ain’t that type of party, y’all. This no-frills dance night is a guaranteed good time so long as you aren’t afraid to sweat. Resident DJs Herbert Holler, Cosi, and Marc Smooth take over Santos Party House every Friday night to spin Nineties hip-hop, r&b, soul, house, and everything in between. There is reduced admission (free for women until midnight/$10 for men until 2 a.m.) with an RSVP to the guest list, and $10/$20 otherwise — but the cover is well worth it based on the varied programming. Be it the monthly reggae/soca night that takes over Santos’s lower level, Freedom Island; the Freedom Party at Central Park SummerStage, where Freedom fans can bust a move at Rumsey Playfield for free once a year; or the popular annual Michael Jackson Tribute, Freedom Party’s organizers aim to please. at Santos Party House, 96 Lafayette Street, Manhattan 10013, 212-584-5492,
