Best Local Ice Cream Collaboration

For their first anniversary, Alicia and Daniel Mekelburg of Clinton Hill’s subterranean grocer and pub Mekelburg’s celebrated in an extremely chill way: with custom ice cream. Working with the whizzes over at nearby Ample Hills Creamery — known for their uninhibited flavor combinations (and a recent Star Wars tie-in) — the Mekelburgs collaborated on not one but two frozen desserts featuring their popular babkas, which they sell by the loaf and turn into french toast during weekend brunch. “I Love It When You Call Me Big Babka” drops chunks of streaky chocolate babka into a milk chocolate custard base, while “Babka Days Are Here Again” swirls creamy vanilla bean ice cream with Mekelburg’s fragrant cinnamon babka. “Our babka is a huge draw for our customers,” Alicia tells the Voice, adding, “It’s been a bigger success than I ever could have imagined.” The neighborhood darling — famous for its cheffy sandwiches and baked potatoes on steroids — has sold more than 1,000 pints of its proprietary freezer-bound treats to date. 293 Grand Avenue, Brooklyn
