Saranya Balaguru is a thought leader in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Robotic Process Automation (RPA), with a focus on next-generation business solutions.
In her role as the Manager of product and technology solutions specialized in Automation and AI at leading U.S. healthcare organization, one of the largest health insurers in the United States, she uses her strong background in RPA and healthcare to transform traditional business operations with automation, improving decision-making processes, scalability, and overall performance. Saranya’s career has seen her continuously improve her skills to help businesses unlock new levels of automation and efficiency.
Saranya’s Journey into RPA and AI Integration
Saranya began her career as a systems applications and product analyst specializing in business intelligence warehouse (SAP BI/BW), but she quickly realized that while data management was integral to decision-making, the true potential for organizational change was in automation. Automation frees teams to focus on strategic, high-value initiatives, thereby improving efficiency. This was how Saranya discovered the field of RPA and became inspired to undergo training at Wonderbots, a company specializing in AI-integrated RPA.
Leveraging her specialized training, expertise, and leadership skills, Saranya emerged as a solution architect at the forefront of advancements in RPA and intelligent automation. Her innovative approach and technical acumen have positioned her as a driving force in transforming automation solutions.
“A pivotal breakthrough in my career was pioneering the integration of AI and Machine Learning (ML) into traditional RPA frameworks,” Saranya explains. “These frameworks allow organizations to evolve from rigid, rule-based automation to intelligent, adaptive systems.”

AI and RPA: A Powerful Combination
Since AI has only recently started becoming a part of the modern workplace, the distinction between AI and RPA within a business context is still being discovered. Put simply, RPA automates tasks based on fixed rules, while AI will adapt to a task over time. When AI is integrated into RPA technology, a business can combine the simple and effective automation of RPA with the advanced decision-making of AI, enabling existing automation to become more efficient and optimized. This optimization creates scalable business solutions suited for the changing needs of a business, rather than having to develop new rules for a solely RPA-based solution.
Saranya’s work involves developing automation solutions with RPA and AI that can improve its decision-making processes as it operates. Businesses benefit from the enhanced efficiency of automation, with AI technology building from repetitive tasks toward streamlined optimization.
In Saranya’s mind, intelligent automation has the power to create operational excellence and will be capable of redefining entire business models, which is why she’s so dedicated to developing these industry solutions with her team.

Transforming Business Operations
Much of Saranya’s efforts have been directed toward the healthcare sector, which stands to benefit greatly from proper AI implementation. With AI-integrated RPA solutions, healthcare organizations are empowered to operate with improved agility and intelligence, directly improving patient outcomes and overall operational efficiency.
“One of the most transformative experiences of my career has been applying RPA in the healthcare sector,” says Saranya. “I played a crucial role in automating many healthcare business processes for both payers and providers, which not only alleviated administrative burdens but also ensured compliance with stringent healthcare regulations. The direct impact of automation on improving patient care outcomes was a defining moment for me.”
Many businesses, especially healthcare practices, have vast stores of unstructured data that are not being put to use. AI is capable of organizing and interpreting this valuable data while providing enhanced insight that improves business outcomes. AI-driven automation utilizes this data to strengthen business efficiency through handling repetitive tasks and interpreting where information would be best employed.
Building Future-Ready Systems
Of course, Saranya is not building automation frameworks solely for project-specific applications but also as solutions that are scalable across entire organizations. She feels that the automation programs she develops must grow alongside a business so the full potential of AI technology can be put to use.
“By building automation frameworks designed to grow alongside businesses, I’ve guided companies from isolated automation to enterprise-wide digital transformation—streamlining healthcare, cutting admin burdens, and enabling providers to focus on patient care over operations.”
For her work in building these future-ready systems, Saranya has received several awards, including the Titan Innovation Award for next-gen workflow automation and the Global Tech Award for RPA, and she has been nominated for the Women in Tech Global Awards 2024. She has also served on judging panels for several awards, including the 2024 Global Recognition Awards and the Digital Health Awards 2024.

A Vision for the Future of Automation
Saranya is currently working to expand her knowledge of AI through the Microsoft Azure OpenAI program, where she focuses on integrating generative AI into business processes. Her vision for the future is one of enhanced business solutions, with AI and hyper-automation driving more intelligent, efficient, and flexible operations.
“My future goals revolve around pushing the boundaries of intelligent automation and driving innovation at the intersection of RPA, AI, and ML,” Saranya concludes.
Staying true to this goal, her vision is to empower organizations to operate with greater agility and intelligence, particularly in healthcare, where automation can directly improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
