For the fools lacking common sense, cable, or both, let it be known that Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Doritos, Peyton Manning, Cam Newton, and the NFL are no match for Beyoncé.
At Super Bowl 50, she not only succeeded in upstaging the halftime show’s headliner and football at large with her stadium-leveling performance of “Formation,” but used one of the biggest broadcast events in sports and popular culture, period, to announce her next massive endeavor, the Formation World Tour. Most artists take to Twitter to break this kind of news. Beyoncé took to your damn flat-screen to deliver the good word on a scale that makes “grand” look cheap.
Bey’s latest global trek will stop by New York’s Citi Field on June 7; tickets go on sale for the North American leg of the Formation Tour on February 16. On February 6, Beyoncé pulled another SURPRISE! on the world and dropped her new single and its stunning visual counterpart, “Formation.” Rumors turned to fact on February 7, when “Formation” served as Bey’s solo contribution to the Super Bowl’s halftime show. This was Beyoncé’s second epic Super Bowl showing: In 2013, Queen B raked in the accolades for her halftime extravaganza that banked on her biggest hits and Destiny’s Child glory days. (Her former bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, joined her for a hugely anticipated DC reunion to mark the occasion.) The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour took flight shortly after that, and the Beyhive have been besides themselves waiting for their queen to get back on the road ever since. The Formation World Tour is a promise of bigger things to come, and even Chris Martin and the dudes hurling pigskin in the tight pants can’t be mad that their thunder lost a bit of might in the wake of her announcement. Beyoncé is back, and not a moment too soon.
