The legendary Rock Steady Crew celebrated its anniversary at Central Park on Sunday afternoon (July 26). Hip-hop legend and longtime New Yorker Big Daddy Kane helped the break dance group kick off it’s 39th year.

Other performers included the Mood Doctors, Easy Money, Queen Herawin, Your Old Droog, DJ Scratch and eMC. There was also a special tribute dedicated to the late rapper, Pumpkinhead, who died earlier this year. The performance included many rappers who shared the stage with him as well as his eldest son, who rapped along to one of his father’s tracks.
The free event brought everyone from hardcore hip-hop lovers to families who wanted to introduce their kids to the sounds that loved when they were younger. Not only did the show take everyone down a musical memory lane, but the Rock Steady Crew showed the crowd what breakdancing was all about and even featured Mari Koda, who’s starred in the Step Up films.
