Never mind Ash Wednesday because this year, the quintessential New Orleans party band is giving up Lent for Lent. Their 10th studio album and first carnival-themed release, Carnivale Electricos, dropped on Mardi Gras, featuring a stylistic neighborhood gumbo of the bead-throwing debauchery. Indian Chief Juan Pardo, rapper Mystikal, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, the KIPP Renaissance High School Marching Band, and Brazilian samba group Casa Samba contribute a few of the zydeco-infused flavors. The sleepless cross-country tour they’re embarking on will have their circadian rhythms even more syncopated than ever, but a riotous second line goes a long way to keeping the energy up. With Steel Pulse.
