Abby Rose decided to slip out of her camo fatigues and into something a little more comfortable: lingerie for her OnlyFans account. The 32-year-old joined the United States Marine Corps at 24, serving from 2017-2021. While she was serving, she was paid roughly $30,000 a year. But when she left the Marine Corps, she struggled to make ends meet.
Rose began working at a strip club before venturing into the adult film industry and the subscription-based platform OnlyFans. As a decorated Marine, she found a unique niche in military-based roleplay. Now she makes 10 times what she did in the military, and that $300,000 a year comes in handy.
The Houston-based model founded a non-profit, The Happy Bean Project, to support people struggling with mental health issues. The coffee iniative hits home for Rose, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder while serving her country. But she’s not the only one in her family who struggles with mental health.
“My brother has struggled with mental health, drug addiction, and homelessness for over a decade. And I was diagnosed as bipolar while serving in the Marine Corps. I know firsthand how important support and understanding are. That’s why I started The Happy Bean Project – to create a space where people feel seen, valued, and supported.”
It seems that Rose didn’t quite feel supported during her time in the military. In a recent interview, she suggested that military culture to be toxic: “My mindset on the military has changed quite a bit since I’ve been out. I do think it helps build resilience and character, and for sure it toughens your skin. However, the overall culture is pretty toxic. I also think that the government doesn’t use the military correctly and oftentimes just uses young people to fight unnecessary wars.”
Rose was also quick to point out the hypocrisy of the many fellow Marines who publicly decry her decision to do porn while privately subscribe to her account. In a recent Instagram reel, she called this out. The reel begins with photos of her time in the military with a text overlay reading: “Everyone in America respecting me for being willing to die to make a few elite people in the government even more powerful, rich and greedy.” The reel continues with explicit photos of Rose on the set of an adult film with a new text overlay: “Everyone in America saying I have zero self-respect for having consensual sex with people I like on camera.”
If people have a problem with Rose choosing to show up on OnlyFans after leaving service, you’d think they’d also have a problem with people who create accounts while still serving. That’s what a Royal Navy sailor from the UK did last year.
Naval Airman Zak Blackman was forced out of service after it was revealed that he was selling OnlyFans photos taken onboard Britain’s massive HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier. The 21-year-old reportedly made £20,000 a month on the platform — a far cry from the £1,500 a month he made in the military.
