A delightfully cold heart beats beneath the breast of playwright Leslye Headland. In Bachelorette, her scurrilous comedy of female fiendship that played uptown last season, several dainty maidens trash a hotel room and one another on the eve of a fat friend’s wedding. In her latest, Assistance, she reunites with Bachelorette director Trip Cullman for this workplace travesty, produced by Playwrights Horizons. Her depiction of an insupportable office environment ought to send shivers racing down the bowed spine of anyone who has ever held an administrative position and been tempted to sub arsenic for the non-dairy creamer in the higher-ups’ coffee. The cast—which includes Michael Esper and Bobby Steggert—plays the harried aides to a horrendous boss.
