Call it the revolving door effect: the trombonist’s work is based on a ceaseless string of collaborations. Little surprise then, that his b-day party is awash with colorful characters, especially those who wield the instrument to which he’s dedicated his life. The coos and blasts of Rudd’s Trombone Tribe are the evening’s central fare, but enhancements by guests Josh Roseman and Ray Anderson will boost the sliding-brass quotient even further. And regarding far-afield tangents, it sure is a long way from Michael Doucet’s Cajun country to Imiri Baraka’s Newark library. However, Ros just might have the power to put ’em in the same zip code.
