Teach the Children Well

How did you find out about sex? I was about nine. I have an older
sister and I learned
from seeing her and
her boyfriend. They were kissing and touching each other. I was experienced with this girl who was older, about 16.

How would you explain it to your kids? I have a daughter now who’s 10. She’s curious about everything. I tell her to be responsible.

Would you give them birth control? That’s
tricky. I don’t think I would feel comfortable.

How did you find out about sex? I was about 14 when I lost my
virginity. I learned from some older guys in the neighborhood when
I was 12. It was a street thing. You learn how to work the girl over, knock her boots.

How would you explain it to your kids? They start asking certain questions, I’ll explain the whole deal.

Would you give them birth control? My son,
I would tell him everything. My daughters,
I would stress the fact to be careful.
Emotionally, they’re more vulnerable.

How did you find out about sex? A combination of media exposure and friends and some parental input. I
remember reading Judy Blume, Forever, the dirty parts, and thinking, what does that mean?

How would you explain it to your kids? I’d give them all the logistics. Maybe they wouldn’t need the full details till later.

Would you give them birth control? With a lot
of discussion, in their later teens.

How did you find out about sex? Probably
our neighbor’s Playboy magazines.

How would you explain it to your kids? When I feel she’s approaching the age or when she’s feeling pressure from her peers. I’ll explain everything about Adam and Eve, or Adam and Steve, if that’s the case.

Would you give them birth control? I’ll introduce the different types of birth control. There’s
no way to stop them from having sex.

How did you find out about sex? On the streets and in school.

How would you explain it to your kids? I would sit them down and tell them before the other kids get to them. Kids won’t tell them about the risks.

Would you give them birth control? Definitely.

How did you find out about sex? I don’t even remember. It could
have been friends.

How would you explain it to your kids? I’d want to tell them myself. Maybe when they’re
about 10 or 11.

Would you give them birth control? I don’t know because it’s against my religion. But I have problems with my religion, so maybe.

How did you find out about sex? From friends. My parents had no part.

How would you explain it to your kids? I would hope education in the schools would be better by that time. If not, maybe I’ll ask my wife.

Would you give them birth control? Definitely. Probably at 14. Most children are practicing sex around that age. Right?
