The New Amsterdam Market Returns on June 27

It’s back! Following its City of Merchants fundraiser last Saturday, the New Amsterdam Market has just announced it will be returning to the South Street Seaport on Sunday, June 27. There will be subsequent monthly markets on July 24 and August 22, and then, beginning on September 12, weekly markets.

When he spoke with us last December, market founder Robert LaValva told us that he planned to have more produce and fewer prepared foods, noting that “[w]e want to keep it very balanced. … We always want to have [prepared foods] there — they’re part of what makes the market a place to visit — but to be conscious of limiting that so it never loses its identity as a market.”

When we saw him at Saturday’s fundraiser, LaValva didn’t go into details about the market’s new vendors, but if his earlier comments are anything to go by, it’s going to be a veritable cornucopia.
