This cycling action attracted its fair share of curious – and clueless – reporters, presumably because the Critical Mass rides have resulted in arrests before. One such reporter – from Fox TV News, no less – took a seemingly bemused Micah Gates by storm, as the wily-haired and bespectacled college-aged kid from Baltimore did his best to answer the questions.
Tanned and preened, the reporter asked Gates why he’d come down to the Critical Mass event, to which Gates replied, “I’m riding to express my displeasure with the Bush administration.”
Apparently, the answer wasn’t good enough.
“Are you riding against the inauguration?”
“No. I’m riding against the general political climate.”
“Are you here to get arrested?”
“I’m not planning on it.”
“But there are no bicycles allowed in the perimeter,” the reporter continued, “so you know you could get arrested.”
“I know it’s possible, but I don’t want to get arrested.”
“Okay,” the reporter said. And with that, he left.
