UK funky, a house-y offshoot of grime meant to get people back on the dance floor, doesn’t turn up much in these parts, so we’re lucky to get a visit from Brixton’s Merissa Campbell, a/k/a Cooly G. A single mother and once a semi-pro footballer, she’s becoming one of the most intriguing experimentalists on the post-garage/dubstep front. Her early work has already earned her an XLR8R podcast episode and space on Kode9’s groundbreaking Hyperdub label. With the Turbotax DJs.
