Dish no. 14: Sticky toffee pudding from Park Avenue Autumn (360 Park Avenue South, 212-951-7111)
We’re firm believers that all seasons are sticky toffee pudding season, but the dessert is especially nice in the fall, when decadence seems necessary to stave off the chill that’s crept into the night air. (Plus, isn’t there something in our biology that encourages us to fatten up for winter?) Park Avenue Autumn is offering an excellent version this fall: the dense, cakey pudding comes crowned with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and flanked by slices of sweet, earthy fig. It’s topped off with hot, salty-sweet sticky toffee at your table, which pools with melted ice cream at the bottom of the bowl. Order a second round, why don’t you? Winter is just around the corner.
In advance of our 2014 Best of NYC issue, we’re traipsing through the boroughs and divulging our favorite dishes of the year. They’re presented here as a countdown, but we’re listing them in no particular order. Consider this a guide to what’s good to eat in this town right this very second.
