Best Health-Conscious Restaurant

Take a cue from the fresh-faced cool kids who populate Dimes, a small, storefront restaurant east of Chinatown. Inside, the tidy, gallery-bright space exudes the kind of relaxed chill you might find at an L.A. juice bar on a Sunday morning. The menu is accessible, affordable, and full of those superfoods you keep meaning to stock up on at Whole Foods. Fruit and vegetables really are beautiful, and the kitchen at Dimes takes care to incorporate these fresh ingredients into its dishes, which are served on plain white dinnerware but with a painter’s eye for color and composition. Go ahead and nourish yourself here all day. In the morning, choose from an assortment of breakfast bowls (like lavender-blueberry açaí or chia pudding topped with almonds, raspberries, pomegranate, banana, and hemp) or one of our favorite sandwiches — softly scrambled eggs with avocado and pickled jalapeños. And not to worry — healthy doesn’t mean meatless: Various protein options, such as chicken, salmon, or eggs, can be added to big salads. For dinner, Dimes serves heartier small and large plates, including a fattoush chicken salad and a flap sirloin steak with chimichurri. Refreshments include gotta-be-good-for-you wheatgrass margaritas and sea-plasma-infused martinis — otherwise, opt for the blended juice of the day, a cleansing pH tonic, or one of Bellocq’s green, black, or herbal tea blends. Oh, and don’t forget to pick up one of co-owner Sabrina De Sousa’s homemade organic lip balms on your way out. 49 Canal Street, Manhattan 10002, 212-925-1300,
