They tell you the place (Torn Page, a tiny arts center at the former home of actors Rip Torn and Geraldine Page, in West Chelsea), the time (one Sunday night a month, doors at 7, screening at 7:30 or 8), and the name of the guest filmmaker who’s been tasked with choosing a movie, not one of their own, that influenced or inspired them. As for the identity of the film itself, you’ll only find that out when the lights dim. Afterward, filmmaker Matt Kohn, creator and curator of the ten-year-old Speakeasy Cinema, interviews the guest artist and leads a wide-ranging discussion of the work just viewed. Guests last season included Clark Middleton, Nina Paley, Vanessa Gould, Nadia Szold, and more. Gamble on it. Live music first, BYOB and/or snacks, contribute $10.
