Fox News “Mole” Joe Muto Claims Manhattan D.A. Raided His Apartment

Fox News “mole” Joe Muto claims (via-Twitter) that his apartment was raided this morning by investigators from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and several of his mole-y gadgets were confiscated.

“I just got search warranted at 6:30am by a very polite crew from the DA’s office. Took my iPhone, laptop, some old notebooks,” Muto “tweeted” this morning.

As the morning went on, Muto fired off three more tweets about the alleged raid.

– 7:37 a.m.: “According to the warrant, Fox News is apparently accusing me of grand larceny, amongst other things.”

– 7:37 a.m.: “They’re pretty worked up over a clip of Romney talking about his horses.”

– 7:38 a.m.: “I should have done something more innocuous, like hacked a
dead girl’s phone and interfered with a police investigation.”

Sources at the Manhattan D.A.’s Office declined comment
when asked to confirm whether Muto’s claims were accurate.

Muto, as you may recall, is a former producer for Fox News host Bill
O’Reilly’s opinion show. He was paid by Gawker (reportedly $5,000) to
anonymously publish Fox News’ dirty laundry on Gawker’s website. The
dirtiest of the laundry Muto uncovered was about a friendly conversation host
Sean Hannity had with Mitt Romney before an interview — like the rest
of the “dirt” Muto dug up, the conversation was completely innocuous.

Muto later said he was saving all the real dirt to be released at a “later time,” likely in a tell-all book bashing Fox.

Muto said his decision to act as a “mole” at Fox News was just “a primal
scream from a long-time FOX employee who just couldn’t take
it anymore and could not take it one more day in that place.” He claims
he was first outraged by the network because of its bias coverage of
John Kerry during the 2004 presidential election — yet he continued
working there for eight years…now he’s probably writing a book.

Muto was made within 24 hours of his first post on Gawker’s website and fired the next day.
Fox News officials told the Voice at the time that the network was
considering legal action against Muto. This morning, it appears the
network — with a little help from the Manhattan D.A.’s Office —
dropped the hammer.

It’s unclear if Muto’s been charged with any crimes. We’ll find out and let you know. Check back for updates.
