Free Beer and Soviet Cooking in This Week’s Events

Spring fever? Shake up your routine. Here are a few events worth checking out this week.

Free beer goes a long way in undoing the stress of a long day, and Daniel Delaney’s renowned brisket pit is pouring a free keg every Tuesday starting at 5 p.m. Drink until the well runs dry while you tuck into heaping piles of pork ribs, sausage, and sides.

Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking, Tenement Museum, 108 Orchard Street, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.

James Beard award winning author Anya von Bremzen will share recipes and perspectives on the food of her childhood, focusing on the political and the emotional meaning of food in the former Soviet Union. The event is free; purchasing a copy of the book allows you to reserve two seats (otherwise, seating is first come, first served). Heritage Radio Network Presents: Boozey Bees, Brooklyn Winery, 213 North 8th Street, Brooklyn, Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Taste a unique spirit several different ways: Veteran bartenders Joe Campanale, Aaron Polsky, and Adam Schuman will put together a series of cocktails made with NY honey whiskey from Catskills Provisions. Your $30 ticket also includes snacks, and a DJ will provide the soundtrack.

Barrier Tap Takeover, Miles, 101 Wilson Avenue, Brooklyn, Thursday through Wednesday

Long Island based Barrier Brewing Co. is taking over a Bushwick bar and pouring seven of its original brews — including brown ale, a German style kolsch, and an extra pale ale. The bar will offer seven types of grilled cheese — such as prosciutto, brie, and sweet hot mustard — to pair with the brewery’s line up.
