Apparently David Paterson has now really, finally, absolutely made up his mind about his senate pick. The governor’s press office just released his schedule for tomorrow, which calls for a noon press conference tomorrow in Albany to announce his “U.S. Senate Appointment.”

Meanwhile, Long Island congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy has delivered what looks like a knockout punch to the chances of upstate rep Kirsten Gillibrand, who has been hyped all day as the new favorite.

McCarthy, whose husband died from the bullets of a deranged gunman on the LIRR,  tells the Times that if pro-gun Gillibrand  is the gov’s pick, she’ll run against her if she has to. “To have a senator representing the NRA for New York, that would be wrong,” says McCarthy, 65. “If it comes down to that, I will primary in 2010.”

Gillibrand’s record — as per Wayne Barrett’s analysis below — also includes votes for the Iraq War and against this fall’s economic bailout plan.
