Reddit has quickly become a popular place for OnlyFans creators to promote their content — and OnlyFans managers are taking note. That’s why many OnlyFans managers and agencies are buying Reddit accounts for that exact reason.
Reddit is ideal for content creators who want to protect their identity, which is more difficult on other social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok. However, a brand new Reddit account isn’t nearly as valuable as an established one. That’s because Reddit isn’t like most social media platforms.
Reddit values content creators differently based on the age of the account, its accumulated reputation, and its karma. Karma is essentially a reputation score, and it goes up and down as your posts and comments are upvoted or downvoted. The platform uses karma to measure an account’s contribution to the site, and some subreddits require a minimum karma level to be able to post at all.
And that is exactly why OnlyFans managers and agencies have begun buying established Reddit accounts. They want older accounts that have stellar reputations and excellent karma so they can immediately begin promoting their clients instead of having to do all the work of building up a Reddit account from scratch. (Of course, some OFMs sell online courses on warming up Reddit accounts, for those who can’t afford to buy an established account.)
But buying an established Reddit account is a risk, as it directly violates Reddit’s Terms of Service which prohibits account transfers or reselling — likely for this exact reason. Plus, you can never guarantee that the Reddit account you’re getting is as good as you expected. There is a certain level of scamming happening in the Reddit account buying/selling community, and there’s no recourse if you are scammed.
This Reddit user also speculates that it isn’t even worth the risk.
“Moderators can usually tell pretty easily when an account is purchased, and sometimes the username is even a dude’s name. I mod a couple of big subreddits and I’m seeing more purchased accounts, and some women even admit they’re purchased, not realizing that it is against Reddit’s TOS. I know building karma is hard. I know Reddit is complicated, but the shortcuts don’t work either and SWs have a bad rap in NSFW subreddits because of shit like this.”
While it likely won’t affect the OnlyFans model if their managers are buying and using established Reddit accounts, it’s still risky. Instead, OnlyFans stars and their managers should focus on growing their own account organically, even if they’re starting with a brand new account. It isn’t difficult, just time consuming and not for the impatient. But if you (or your team posting for you) consistently contributes the kind of content that people in your communist are looking for, participates in discussions, and follows community rules, you can build karma and credibility over time. Plus engaging authentically with subreddits relevant to your specific niche will help you establish trust and gain a loyal following of people that may be interested in becoming paid subscribers. Reading the room is crucial for success on Reddit to a much higher degree than on other social networks.
If time and patience aren’t on your side, you can always try Reddit’s ad platform for targeted engagement. Reddit Ads allow you to reach specific communities or interests, giving you a shortcut to visibility without the pesky ethical and legal risks of buying an established account.
