In 1973, Billie Jean King became a hero to millions of women when she wiped the court with Bobby Riggs’s smug face in a match dubbed the Battle of the Sexes. It was shortly afterward that King was asked by a reporter: “Are you an angry woman?” Inspired by that moment, actor-writer Laryssa Husiak, a member of the Obie-winning Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf, follows the tennis star’s journey to fame in her new work, She Is King. Using archival footage to re-create key moments in King’s life, Husiak brings to life the world champion at the top of her game.
