Philip Levine Reads at Congregation Beth Elohim on Thursday, May 10

The award-winning U.S. Poet Laureate reads, followed by a Q&A with CBE's Senior Rabbi Andy Bachman.

On Thursday, May 10, Philip Levine, the current United States Poet Laureate, reads at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, followed by a Q&A with CBE's Senior Rabbi Andy Bachman. At 84-years-old, Levine has published twenty poetry collections and won numerous awards in his careeer, including the 1995 Pulitzer for Poetry for The Simple Truth. Born in Detroit to a Russian-Jewish family of immigrants, his work explores the grittiness of his hometown and the anti-semitism he witnessed in his community growing up. After studying at the University of Iowa in the '50s, Levine spent nearly four decades teaching poetry at California State University in Fresno. The event is free, with a $10 suggested donation from non-members. Click here to RSVP.
