If These Walls Could Talk: A Peek Inside the Most Imaginative Hotel in New York

Room 2A by Hugo Arizmendi, Andrew Hickey, Geof Green, Colette Jennings

The Carlton Arms has also evolved over the years as a kind of living, breathing art project: Since the Eighties, artists have taken to painting the various rooms, slapping enveloping, full-size murals on the bare walls…  — Danny King

Once a year, the Carlton Arms Hotel opens its doors for the public to meander through the rooms without having to check in for the night. Now in its 34th year, six new rooms will open on March 18, 2016 including ‘Sleep Thinking’ by Steven Appleby, ‘Fore-Sea’ by Brian Dowdall and Alison Spiesman, ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ by Hope London, ‘The Venus de Mars Room’ by Venus de Mars (of the band All the Pretty Horses with poetry by Lynette Reini-Grandell), ‘Chapel For Drunken Painters’ by Ronny Lischinski, and ‘Back to the Closet’ by Restlessminds (Linda Emily Al-Ghussein and Fabian Olovson).
Here’s a peek inside some of the finished rooms…and a few under progress with artists making their marks for the ages.
