Thanksgiving is all but a memory and Christmas looms large. The weather is cold and the days are short. It is time for a stiff drink.
Fortunately, The Bedford, the homey American restaurant and speakeasy in Williamsburg, offers a cocktail menu designed to raise spirits and warm souls. And in these final days of fall, a classic Old Fashioned sounds like the perfect way to drink in the next season.
The Sweet Wilbur from The Smith Lincoln Center
The Apple Cider Sidecar from Whiskey Park
The Drink: Old Fashioned
The Bar: The Bedford
The Price: $10
The Ingredients: 1 sugar cube, 2 or 3 dashes of aromatic bitters, such as Angostura, 2 1⁄2 ounces Booker’s, orange slice, Maraschino cherry, lemon twist
The Method: Put the sugar in an old-fashioned glass and moisten with the bitters. Crush them together with a muddler. Add the whiskey and fill the glass with ice. Stir well and garnish with orange, cherry, and lemon. (If you need something a bit less boozy, add a splash of soda water.) Serve.
